We’ve all heard the term “shop small” or are aware when someone expresses the importance of buying local from a small business that that has a good place in our society. However, I’m not sure we are realizing exactly how important our buying habits as a society really are, as it relates to how we perform. Think about it this way… if we continue buying from big chip stocks all the time, and working in their organizations, it’s the equivalent of buying at the company store. Our society needs risk takers to start their own companies selling products and services locally and globally so our kids aren’t all working for Walmart one day and living in a van down by the river. If you can teach your kids how to start a company, even if it isn’t extremely profitable immediately, the world will be a better place. Show your kids you can fall on your face, good bonding.

So how do we do this? Try writing down what small businesses you are currently buying from. Can you add to this list? Which friends’ small businesses could use support? After buying from a small business, share about it. People love it when people buy from people. Also, consider starting a business or buying a business as soon as you can. Running a business is as challenging as it gets but my goodness the flip side is not knowing your potential and the world not being as cool as you can design it.
